Two unemployed men, Len and Ted, were sitting in a
restaurant drinking tea.
  Outside, on the opposite side of the road, there was a
bank. A security guard was standing outside the bank.
  Len stood up. “I must go,” he said. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
  “OK,” Ted said. “I’ll be here.”
  Len walked out of the restaurant and crossed the road.
Then he walked up to the security guard, said something to him
and ran off as fast as he could.
  The security guard was very angry and he ran after Len
shouting at him.

  “Come back here! How dare you insult me!” he shouted,
but Len kept on running.
  The security guard could not catch him and he was soon
out of sight.
  Still angry, the security guard hurried back to his position
outside the bank.
  The next day Len came into the restaurant. Ted was
already there. He sat next to him and ordered some tea.
  Ted said, “Yesterday, I saw you go up to the security guard,
say something to him and run off. He was very angry and ran
after you.”
  “That’s right,” Len said. “I called him a fat-faced idiot. He
was really angry.”
  “Why did you do that?” Ted asked.
  “I’m going to rob the bank today,” Len said. “I wanted to
find out how fast he could run.”

  两个失业的人，兰恩和泰德，坐在一家餐厅喝茶。
  马路对面有一家银行。一个保安在银行门口站岗。
  兰恩站起来说：“我必须走了，明天见。”
  泰德说：“好的，明天，在这里，不见不散。”
  兰恩走出餐厅，穿过马路，走到那个银行保安身边跟他说了点儿什么，
说完撒腿就跑了。
  保安非常生气，边追边骂他。
  他喊道：“回来，你竟敢骂我！”但是，兰恩继续向前跑。
  保安追不上他，他很快就不见了。
  保安怒气冲冲地回到原来的位置。
  第二天，兰恩走进餐厅，泰德已经在那儿了。他紧挨着兰恩坐下，要了
杯茶。
  泰德说：“昨天我看见你走到保安身旁，跟他说了点儿什么，然后就跑
了。他很生气地在后面追你。”
  兰恩说：“完全正确，我叫他肥脸白痴，他果真生气了。”
  “你为什么那样做啊？”泰德问。
  兰恩说：“今天我要去抢银行。我想试试他能跑多快。
