One morning a mailman walked up to a house. He rang the bell.
  A few seconds later a window of the house opened, and a woman

put her head out.
 “What is it?” she wanted to know.
 “I've got a package for Mrs. Smith,” the mailman said.
 “Is it registered?” the woman asked.
 “Yes,” the mailman said.
 “Is it a big package or a small package?” the woman
wanted to know next.
 “It’s quite a small package,” the mailman told her.
 “I see.”
  The woman thought for a minute, and then she said,
“Who is it from?”
  The mailman looked at the return address on the
back of the package.
“It’s from Jones and Jones in London,” he said.
  Now the woman was very interested . “ From Jones and Jones, eh?” she said.

“That’s a very expensive shop. What’s in the package?”
  “Madam,” the mailman said, becoming quite angry with the woman,

“I don’t know. Why don’t you come down and take the package from me?

Then you can open it and find out.”
  “Oh, I can’t do that,” the woman said.
  “Why not?” the mailman asked.
  “Because I’m not Mrs. Smith,” she said. “You’ve come to the wrong house.

Mrs. Smith lives next door.”

        邮　包
  一天早晨，邮递员来到一户人家，按响了门铃。
  几秒钟后，一扇窗户打开了，一位妇女探出头来。
  “什么事啊？”妇女问。
  “有个给史密斯太太的邮包。”邮递员说。
  “是挂号的吗？”妇女问。
  “是。”邮递员答道。
  “是个小的还是大的啊？”妇女接着问。
  “很小的一个。”邮递员回答道。
  “我知道了。”
  妇女想了一会儿，说：“哪儿寄来的？”
  邮递员看了看邮包背面的邮寄地址。
  “是伦敦的琼斯寄来的。”他说。
  妇女越来越感兴趣了。“是琼斯？”她说。“那可是一家非常昂贵的店
啊。邮包里是什么东西啊？”
  “夫人，”邮递员显得有些生气了，“我不知道。你干吗不下来把邮包
领走？这样你不就知道里面是什么了吗。”
  “哦，我不可以那样做的。”妇女说。
  “为什么呢？”邮递员问。
  “因为我不是史密斯夫人，”她说。“你走错了，史密斯夫人住在隔壁。”
