Spending Too Much?|钱包大失血?

You can’t resist that shirt on sale. And those cute red shoes also end up in your shopping bag. Or you buy a new computer that you can’t live without.

We’ve all bought things on impulse – things we wanted but really didn’t need.U.S. statistics show that in 2006 a surprising 60 percent of all in-store purchases were made without thinking first. And the latest reported statistics for e-purchases say that forty percent are impulsive. So why do we do this? It feels good. This feeling comes from a chemical called dopamine, which is released when we do something we enjoy. How can we resist the temptation to spend? Window-shop without your wallet. This way, when you see something you want, you can’t buy it. If you really need the item, you can go back to the store to buy it. But it’s likely you won’t.

Pay in cash – don’t use credit cards. They can trick you into thinking you’re not spending money because the bill doesn’t come until later. Using cash will make youthink twice before spending.

Research the product first – then buy it. This will keep you from being talked into buying expensive hi-tech items like computers.

Make a shopping list – and stick to it. Buy only what is on the list.

Carry the exciting item around the store for 15 minutes. You will be surprised how that purple shirt loses its appeal after the initial “Wow, isn’t that cool?” feeling wears off.

Replace shopping with something fun (and less expensive). It’s hard to give up a bad habit. But if you replace it with a healthy habit, you will have more success. Consider going to the library instead of the bookstore. Explore new parks and learn about nature, or join a church or club. Exercise with friends or join a sports team.

Before you buy, always ask yourself if the item is a “want” or a “need.” This will help you buy only the things you need. Try these tips to stop impulsive buying. You’ll feel better about yourself, and you’ll save a lot of money too.

 

 

 

你抗拒不了那件特价衬衫,那双可爱的红鞋最后也进了你的购物袋,不然就是你买了一台生活中不可缺少的新电脑。

我们都曾一时冲动而买下东西——那些自己想要但其实并不需要的东西。美国的统计数据显示,2006年,60%的店内购物都在买家未经考虑的情况下进行,数据相当惊人,最近发表的网络购物统计数字也显示:40%的网络购买是出于一时冲动。我们为什么会这么做?因为感觉很好。这种感觉来自一种名为多巴胺的化学物质,该物质会在我们做喜欢的事时释放出。我们要如何抗拒花钱的诱惑?

逛橱窗,别带钱包。这样一来,当你看见某样想要买的东西,就没法买下。如果你真的“需要”那样东西,可以之后再到那家店去买,不过你多半不会这么做。

用现金付款——别用信用卡。信用卡会让你以为自己没有花钱,因为账单要过一阵子才会收到。花现金会让你在花钱之前三思。

先对该产品做点研究——然后再买,这能让你免于被别人说服而买下昂贵的如电脑之类的高科技产品。

列一张购物清单——而且严格执行。只买单子上的物品。

拿着那个令你兴奋不已的商品在店里晃15分钟,你会很意外,在一开始那种“哇,好酷!”的感觉消退后,那件紫色衬衫就失去吸引力了。

用某样有趣(而且不花钱)的事取代购物。要改掉一个坏习惯很难,可是如果你用一个好习惯取代坏习惯,就比较容易成功。与其上书店,不如考虑上图书馆。去没去过的公园走走,认识大自然,或参加教会或社团聚会。和朋友一起去运动或加入体育队伍。

买东西前,一定要先自问那个东西是你“想要”还是“需要”的,这么做有助于你只买需要的东西。尝试用以上方法来戒掉冲动购买的习惯,你会更喜欢自己,也能省下许多钱。
